avast! is an antivirus developed by Alwil Software that offers several possibilities to protect the home and corporate users.

The first four steps of the installation are quite simple, you will just have to click next. The only thing to be taken into account is the third step in which you have to accept the program's licence and specify the folder where you want Avast! to be installed.

The fifth step lets us choose the type of installation, whether it is typical, minimal or custom. We will chose the default one - typical - and move on by clicking next. The sixth step is just a transition step, and the last one will ask us to restart now - or later - the pc - which is advisable to do so. Now, click on Finish to complete the process.

After restarting the PC, Avast! will display on the screen its registry tools in which we will have to click on demo to Start using the trial version. The program will take a few minutes to load since it scans the memory and the files that are currently running. No sooner the scan finishes, a presentation screen will be displayed informing us about the different aspects of Avast! By closing it we will start the program.

Once we are there, a simple window will be displayed with several features and presented with an easy-to-use interface.

The first thing to do is click on the buttons to the right. Each of them stands for a different scanning method (disk drivers, portable drives or folders), while in the middle of the screen it will be displayed what is ON or OFF. Its worth mentioning that when selecting the Hard Disk Drives Scan, we can set the scan level we want to perform in the upper side of the screen (Standard by default, and can be changed to Quick and Thorough) Once we set the scan type all we need to do is click on the play button to begin. We can pause or stop the scan.

To Resident Scanner will provide us real-time protection against any kind of threat. To enable it we have to click on the Avast! logo and choose between Disabled, Standard or High.

Last but not least, the button displaying a winamp-like ray will allow us to update the the program to the latest virus definition database, keeping us protected against all upcoming threats.
For the most advanced users there are several features available that can be acceded through the button menu located on the upper left corner of the screen.

From there, you will be able to access options such as Settings, Select Skin, News, Virus Database and more. The one thats stands out the most is the one that enables us to Switch to Enhanced User Interface from where we can use all the features that Avast! has to offer.
